TCF Introduces New High-Yield Checking Account With Free Air Miles Card

Company Release - 8/12/2004 8:30 AM ET

WAYZATA, Minn., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TCF Financial Corporation (TCF) (NYSE: TCB) announced today the introduction of an innovative new banking product that combines a high-yielding checking account and a free platinum credit card that rewards customers with free air travel and merchandise on their card purchases.

The new TCF Premier Checking Plus(SM) account with the TCF Miles Plus(SM) card is uniquely suited for customers who maintain checking account balances of $5,000 or more and pay off their credit card balance each month. TCF Miles Plus cardholders earn one point (or 'mile') for every dollar of purchases made with their card, while they continue to earn competitive interest rates on their entire checking account balance.

TCF customers will receive a very unique combined account statement, which shows not only all checking account activity but also all of their credit card purchases made with their Miles Plus card during the same time period. Card purchases are then automatically deducted from the checking account 15 days after the statement is generated. Customers can also view all of their account and card activity throughout the month using TCF's free on-line banking system, and can access the Miles Plus Reward center through TCF's web site at . TCF customers will also receive free bill payment with this account.

"The TCF Premier Checking Plus account and free TCF Miles Plus card will be very attractive to customers who consistently maintain higher checking account balances, but are frustrated with other airline credit card awards programs," Lynn Nagorske, TCF Financial Corporation President and Chief Operating Officer said. "Most airline reward programs have high annual fees of $90 dollars or more, are specific to one airline, and have 'blackout days' and 'no free seats' for popular destinations. This won't be the case with our new Free Miles Plus card."

TCF Miles Plus cardholders can conveniently search and book their flights on-line with virtually any airline and any flight they choose through TCF's web site. The program has no black-out dates or seat restrictions. Customers can also use their reward points to purchase any of 3 million merchandise items available through the world's leading on-line retailer.

TCF is also offering its new TCF Premier Checking Plus customers 5,000 points to get their reward account started after their first card purchase. TCF has plans to announce additional features and benefits of both products in the coming months.

TCF is a Wayzata, Minnesota-based national financial holding company with $11.9 billion in assets. TCF has 411 banking offices in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Colorado and Indiana.
